"Empires On Edge" – a phrase befitting many aspects of life in Europe at the moment.

Politically, the U.K. and the European Union are entwined in a bitterly controversial, fraught and as-yet still unresolved Brexit process – a situation being closely monitored by member states for its long-term effects and, in the immediate future, the travel brands that serve their populations.

Depending on who you ask, Brexit may not directly affect the might of the global players in digital travel in Europe at all. But these brands are still wary of other forces attempting to chip away at their power.

An evolving economic, cultural and political landscape in the wider continent – and the EU states specifically – may give rise to new opportunities for emerging travel startups, or simply help the mega-players consolidate their already powerful positions.
