New Phocuswright research (1,082 travellers across the US, UK, and France) finds bed bugs ranked the #1 booking concern - ahead of cleanliness, value, and staff - with more than 7 in 10 travellers willing to pay more for a certified bed bug-safe stay.
Valpas, which co-developed the study with Phocuswright, is the bed bug safety standard for hotels: real-time, in-room verified certification, independently audited by Bureau Veritas and recognised by GSTC and WSHA. Verification is machine-readable and surfaced where hotels are now chosen - OTAs, AI booking tools, and corporate RFPs a and where they are valued - ESG frameworks and asset valuation. Across 30,000+ rooms in 60+ destinations including Marriott, Accor, Aman, and Swissôtel, certified hotels show higher commercial performance, stronger guest satisfaction, and the elimination of pest control costs and reputational risk.
